PTI Anniversary Party (Day 3)

I was away for the weekends, to LA for Clare's graduation recital, she did a wonderful job, I am so proud of her, these are the pictures of Clare and her teacher Viki after the recital.

she filled the hall that evening, the crew had to put in more chairs because so many in the school heard of Clare and came for her concert, her teacher Viki supposed to retired and she stayed for another year just to see Clare finish her study at CalArts, after the the concert, I thank Viki for her time and effort spent on Clare, she told me that Clare is not just one of her best student, but is the best pianist she ever seen in her 25 years teaching at CalArts. She also told us that Clare basically has the ticket to walk into any grads school she wants, I am so proud of my little Clare bear.

Clare's boyfriend Jared is also a student at CalArts, he is an animation artist, this is the poster he drew for Clare's recital.

isn't that amazing too?
I just LOVE it!

PTI Anniversary Party (Day 2)

I am lucky to be able to sneak into my craft room this morning before I go to work. I am joining in the fun at....

Papertrey Ink is celebrating their 8th anniversary, today's challenge is to go into Maile Belles's blog to check out her wonderful creation, select a project that inspired you and then make one using elements from her card.

This is one of Maile's awesome creation

I like the clean line ...... and the 2 big section look, so I make this....

I did spend some time layering the die cut with a different color so there is contract between the words and the little flowers, unfortunately, dumb old me, I then used a background color too close to the color of the flower, and it looks like I just paste the die cut on that blue tone, sigh..... (mistake noted!)

PTI Anniversary Party (Day 1)

Do you know that Papertrey Ink is celebrating their 8th anniversary, there is a big party going on there, do check it out!

Day 1 challenge is to used one of the color scheme and one sketch from the DT inspiration.

I am going with this color palette

and this sketch....

my focal point is a rose stamp from PTI Botanical Blocks

the PTI inks I used on the image are pink blush and kraft, after stamping and coloring the image, I add a layer as frame using PTI cardstock.

the word YOU is from a PTI thank you die, I trim away the word "thank" after die cut it with Melon berry cardstock.

I also create a textured background by stamping the cardstock with one of the stamp from PTI fair isle motifs stamp set. I intentionally leave the inside of the card blank so I can use whatever sentiment I need once I know who is the recipient of this card, there are a lot of useful lines I can use from the stamp set show in the picture next....

thanks for your well wishes for my last post, I am still sorting through a lot of things at the Singapore Club, meanwhile, I am trying to keep myself busy with things, my step son Andy is here, father and son went golfing in the day and we try to go out as much in the evening, this week, we went to...

and

I always like Cirque du Soleil, although Mystere is not on the top of my Cirque shows list, but I would still give that a 7/10, and Jabbawockeez.... hmmmmm.... I only realized that I am OLD when I am sitting in the theater, I felt so out of place. LOL! well, loud music, street dancers are really not my things, I kind of just sit there and tried to hide behind others when they were trying to pick up people from the audience to make fun of....... : (

PTI Make it Monday #200 ~ Layering Cover Plate Die Cuts

In the Lunar Calendar, today is 立春 (Beginning of Spring), I hope all the unfortunate events happened at the Singapore Club I volunteer will come to an end, and SPRING brings hope and happiness, things will be going smoothly from today!

Chinese New Year is also on its way (February 19th), that inspired the New Year Card I make today......

for the challenge:

the cover plate I used is the latest release from PTI China Town cover plate

Red and Orange is the lucky colors for Chinese

I cut out the chinese characters 快乐安康  from my red packet....

快乐 means Happiness
and 安康 means safe and healthy
these are some of the things people said to each other on Chinese New Year, wishing your friends happiness, good health and be safe throughout the year, I framed it with gold trim because gold is another lucky color in the Chinese culture.

Wishing YOU, my friends 快乐安康 too!

When I finished the card, I saw a white area at the bottom of the card, kind of an eye sore for me, so I used the negative from this die.....

to make some confetti..... it symbolized red fire crackers, where you can see during Chinese New Year at most part of the world that celebrated the lunar new year (not from the place I grew up though, but I do seen it in pictures growing up) and gold coins, Chinese do like those, LOL!

I feel like I have to explain a little about the red packet I mentioned earlier too (seen here next to my card on the right)

the red packet is like a little envelope where you put money inside, give it to your kids, other children and your elderly like parents, grandparents during chinese new year, you'll received them regardless how old you are until you get married, then you give to others, that is why my sister refused to get married, LOL, just kidding!

Overall, I am happy with my Chinese New Year Card, how about you?

SIGNS of SPRING

Although it is not too cold here in Vegas right now, but I haven't really see any sign of spring yet, so I pull this out from one of the folders...

No winter lasts forever;

no spring skips its turn.

~ Hal Borland

At this moment of time, where I am facing some difficulties at the Singapore Club, where I volunteer my time and effort, the quote is how I keep me moving on.
