Cedar Rapids Iowa and my Thrift Share

Hey, I am finally back to my desk here in Las Vegas, and I will catch up with my blog visits soon....

I spent the past 3 days in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, my husband hometown, we were back for a family event and he also need to get some work done in the main office there, while he was at work on Friday, this is what I do.....

cute little farmer's daughter market.... I bought a pair of pillow case (yet to take picture)

since we did not stop by Chicago for our favorite chicago dogs at Portillo's, we had to stop by the Flying Wienie, and of course my favorite fried chicken in the world at Mahoney's Alburnett. Sorry no photo for this out-of-the-world fried chicken, I was already "the subject" in the restaurant, so I don't even dare to bring my camera out to get more attention. Alburnett is small little farm town, many of those farmers who go to Mahoney's have never seen an Asian in their life, I can't tell you how many people were just starring at me like as if I am E.T from outer space......

my favorite part of the trip is always my brother-in-law Steve's farm out at Lisbon, it was just so peaceful and quiet out there. My husband insisted that he needs a photo of me in that white pick-up.... ya, he wanted one on Steve's tractor 3 years ago, holding a farmer's fork.... maybe he thought a city gal would look funny.......

Now to the fun thing..... I went to a thrift store called STUFF and found these.....

aren't these lovely? they are like 0.49 cents per piece, I am going to Antropologie to get some saucers (probably going to cost like $10 per piece) to go with these beauties.... LOL!

I also found this mile glass compote for 0.99....

the minute I saw this, I knew what I am going to do with it.....

for now, it is sitting in my bathroom counter....

Ok, I am a total city girl, growing up in Singapore, lived in New York City before I moved to Las Vegas, thrift store shopping is totally new, I do not know much about antique and collectable, all I know is they are cheap, and fun......
and for the first time, I am sharing my thrift finds at

I hope to do more thrift share in the future, so fun......

Cute post!! I laughed a bit..I lived in CR 20 some years, raised my 2 sons there. Iowa is getting better about "Variety of People" !! They are intriqued by new things. Small town cafes..funny little places with awesome food. Walk in the door and EVERYONE looks no matter who you are. Most are friendly and happy to see others.
Hope on some of your visits you have visited the Amana Colonies..quite the fun. I moved back to Northern IA 14 yrs ago, remarried and moved to the farm and retired. We visit CR as my son and family (3 grandkids) live there. Hopefully make the trip for the Thanksgiving holiday.
Enjoy the week and thanks for the fun post.

How fun, Kirsty! I love thrift stores, but haven't been in a long time. My first one was in Pitcaple, Scotland. I bought an antique mirror for 3 pounds and I could not even buy a new one worth less for that. Love your green glass. Have a wonderful day!

How COOL, I love those glass mugs in the green color! It's a small world, my stepdad grew up in Cedar Rapids. Sounds like you had fun visiting the country! I say, you saved so much money in IA, that a little Anthropologie shopping spree shouldn't be a big deal ;) Have a great day! :)
