I had accumulated so many photos on my laptop, I just had to dig out a few to share...
September 2012, hubby and I went to
New Orleans
It seemed that New Orleans haven't recover from Hurricane Katrina, when we were there, the River walk Market place was quiet, hardly any tourists and many businesses were still close.
People were standing in lines waiting for food stamps.
The highlight of the trip wasn't the nightlife at French Quarter, in fact, being me (conservative), flashing one's lady parts to get beads is total madness to me, and I had to walked with care in case the flying beads from the balcony above hit my head : 0
We visited
Oak Alley Plantation
Look familiar?
Oh ya.....
Gone With The Wind
beautiful white-columned mansion and oak tress, doesn't Twelve Oaks in the movie look just like that?
those oak tress are 300 years old
a piece of history that one should be ashamed of
whew.... after reading all that, I need to find my peace here...
and how could one go home without a beignet at Cafe du Monde?
I will be back tomorrow for a new challenge at
meanwhile, play along with us at
and
Amazing photos Kirsty .. must have been hard seeing some of those things...
ReplyDeleteLove the photos! Interesting stuff! THX for ending it with my FAV beignets!
ReplyDeleteKirsty- thanks a lot for the pictures! I was visiting the plantation in 1993- it was a highlight on my trip!

New Orleans definitely isn't as it once was but they're still some beautiful sites to be visited(you've captured some of them), but you can't beat the beignets!!! LOL!
ReplyDeleteGreat photos!
TFS these gorgeous photos! I've never been to New Orleans, so I really enjoyed them!
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos Kirsty ... Thanks for sharing them ... my heart aches for the ignorance of the past ....
ReplyDeleteWonderful photographs of your trip Kirsty...The house is stunning and it must have been such an interesting visit...would love to have joined you!
ReplyDeleteHappy Weekend,
Susan x
Fabulous photos Kirsty. That must have been so neat to stroll through.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tour of New Orleans; I have never been there. I am like you, I would skip the crazy party atmosphere of Bourbon Street. Very sad to see the slaveholding history and the continuing effects of Katrina. Yet amid this sadness, there is also hope and beauty. Hope that things are better for the people of New Orleans in 2013.
ReplyDeleteamazing pics, some full of sadness but beauty in others too. Thanks for sharing. (I don't know what a beignet is, but looks yummy!)
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing and totally impressive tour that must have been, I loved looking at your photos Kirsty, although some made me shiver so much...
ReplyDeleteIra’s Crea Corner
You sure get around. Beautiful photos Kirsty.
ReplyDeleteHow sad it is to see so many folks still hurting after Katrina. You stop hearing about it in the news and you think that things are better, but it looks like there's still a long road to recovery left. Such a beautiful place. I'm with you, though...don't really care for all the mardi gras madness, and certainly wouldn't flash any woman parts for beads. But such a cool place to visit! Love to see all your photos!
ReplyDeleteLovely photos! Hugs...x
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you dug these out. Such great photos. I would love to go to New Orleans someday..
