My Dr. Seuss Plant

I never plant anything before I live in Las Vegas, I love flowers, who doesn't? So I started trying seeding 2 years ago in our backyard, but nothing really grow except those planted by our gardener.

I followed the instruction on the seed packet, where I supposed to grow them indoor until they are about 2-3 weeks old, but the wind and heat here just kill them once I moved them outdoor, so I decided that I am going to just let them live in the "wild" since "birth" and not sheltered them too much

Well, after almost 2 years, this is my first flower I grew from a tiny seed, oh well, I used up the whole packet but only one survive, and it looks kind of weird

with "long neck" and very little leaves

so weird that it looks like a plant in the Dr. Seuss story book, don't you think?

and these aren't very healthy looking either, but at least I see some blooms

if you have any tips on gardening, I would like to learn from you : )

  2. I don't know about Dr. Suess's plant but it is beautiful with its long neck. As for your Zinnias try fertilizing, ask your gardener to do it or ask at you local Lowe's or Home Depot. You can get an organic or Miracle Grow. I don't know what is best in the desert!

  6. Growing flowers in your area is super challenging, Kirsty. Not an easy task with your desert conditions. I would recommend looking for plants that are drought-tolerant and starting them from small 6-packs instead of seeds. Seedlings require extra special care like "hardening" before they can go from the indoors to outside. Easier to get small plants instead that won't go through so much shock. Succulent-type plants should do better for you, like portulaca. They come in many different colors and bloom for a long time. :)
Enjoy your concert! You've been waiting a long time!
