I started playing poker 2 years ago, it was a new game for me and DH was my instructor, we play when we have time, when DH had a stressful work day or when I was feeling down, we played to take our mind off things because one have to be so focus when playing poker. When I first started, I can only play 45 minutes to an hour max, because I focus and think so much that after a while, my mind feels tired, it is kind of a good exercise for the brain I think, especially when I am getting older, I really want my mind to keep working.
Poker is like doing mathematics, calculating your odds and knowing the probabilities, but that is only one part, you also need to be observant, pay attention to other players, be aware of your table image etc. Yesterday, I won my very first poker tournament, YAY! It has 91 entries total, I am so proud of myself!
